Chart of the week: All-time high interest in moving to Canada

A few days ago the Economist published an interesting chart in its  Graphic detail blog. It shows how the interest in moving to Canada from the USA and the UK developed with time. The underlying statistics for the chart is the Google search volume for “Move to Canada” from Google Trends. The most recent spikes in searches in the respective countries occurred after Donald Trump won a large number of primaries in the United States in March and after the Brexit vote in the UK. But is it actually a meaningful trend or just a spike in searches reflecting current events? It would be interesting to see whether immigration to Canada from these two countries actually increases in the near future. What do you think?
